TRIBAL RULE
Foaled in Kentucky in 1996, bay stallion Tribal Rule was bred and owned by Pam and Martin Wygod. He was trained by Julio C. Canani and jockeyed by David Romero Flores. Tribal Rule won back-to-back sprint starts by a combined margin of 13 lengths at Del Mar in 2001. He made 4 starts overall in a career that was cut short by a sesamoid injury sustained in a race at Hollywood Park in July 2002. He won 2 of his races and placed 2nd in his other two races. He won $77,600.
Tribal Rule retired to the Wygods’ River Edge Farm in Buellton, CA for the 2003 breeding season. He moved to Ballena Vista Farm in 2010 after the Wygods closed the California wing of their breeding operation. His fee was relatively affordable, in the $5,000-6,500 range. Tribal Rule was California's leading freshman sire of 2006 and was the Leading California Sire of 2-Year-Old Progeny Earnings in 2011, 2012, and 2013 by winners (107) and races won (199). His foals are fast and versatile, they excel in both sprint and route races. With 8 crops to the races numbering 568 foals, Tribal Rule has sired 36 stakes winners and earners of $21,277,152. Tribal Rule’s on-track success is reflected in the sales ring, as his 2012 two-year-olds in training average of $52,667 was more than eight times his stud fee. He died in 2014 from an apparent heart attack while covering a mare at Ballena Vista Farm in Ramona, California. At the time of his death, he led California’s general sire list. Tribal Rule was buried at Ballena Vista Farm.
